Visitor Visa Exemptions for Entering Canada


Citizens from most countries require a visa to enter Canada. However, through treaties and other international agreements, many people have a visitor visa exemption and do not require a visa to visit Canada.

Citizens of the following countries are visa exempt and do not require a visa for entry:

Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Botswana, Brunei, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel (National Passport holders only), Italy, Japan, Korea (Republic of ), Latvia (Republic of), Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Portugal, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, San Marino, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Spain, Swaziland, Sweden, Slovenia, Switzerland, United States, and Western Samoa.

Citizens of the United Sates are visa exempt as well as any permanent resident of the United who is lawfully admitted to that country. A United States permanent resident must provide their alien registration card, commonly referred to as a green card, or must provide other evidence of permanent residence;

British citizens and British Overseas Citizens who are re-admissible to the United Kingdom also do not require a visa. In addition, citizens of British dependent territories who derive their citizenship through birth, descent, registration or naturalization in one of the British dependent territories of Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Pitcairn, St. Helena or the Turks and Caicos Islands are covered under the Canadian visitor visa exemptions.

Visitor visa exemptions also exist for individuals holding a British National (Overseas) Passport issued by the Government of the United Kingdom to persons born, naturalized or registered in Hong Kong and also to individuals possessing a valid and subsisting Special Administrative Region passport issued by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China;

The final visitor visa exemption is for individuals with a passport or travel documents issued by the Holy See.
